自日本3月11日下午发生的里氏8.8级（现已确认为9级）强烈地震及引发的海啸造成严重地震灾害以来，新西兰基督城地区中国学生学者在震惊之余，无不对地震及海啸造成的特大伤亡和严重损失感到深切哀悼和同情。对于同学及学者现在所面临的灾难，连日来新西兰基督城中国学生学者密切关注，尤其牵挂震区华人华侨和留学生们的安危。
基督城2011年2月22日遭受强烈地震的破坏由一座花园城市而变成一片废墟。这场突如其来的灾害中，造成重大人员伤亡和财产损失，其中也有我们的留学生。地震无情人又情，新西兰大使馆教育处老师在第一时间前往抗震一线看望中国同胞。中国驻新西兰大使徐建国表示“只要有百分之一的机会，我们也要尽百分之百的努力去营救我们的同胞”。中国政府在地震后多次向新西兰政府及人民表示同情及关注。温家宝总理及杨洁箎外长先后向新西兰总理及外长发出慰问电。中国政府派出的救援队在得到新西兰政府同意后迅速到达基督城，开始搜救工作。通过祖国和大使馆的努力把我留学人员的损失尽量减到最低。
经过这次灾难性事件，基督城林肯学联总结部分经验分享给大家。这次在日本失踪者家长应及早与使馆联系，同时呼吁在当地的华人及学生尽早与家人报平安，以免家人担心。同时要做好积极的自救工作，注意储备一定的食物和水，注意余震等危险。通过各种渠道发布救援的信息，让大家及时了解该如何处理遇到的困难。积极和使馆教育处联系，有问题及时汇报。
在灾难面前，最重要的是镇定、勇气以及信心。在这样一个关键时刻，请同学们坚强意志，心怀希望，请相信我们的祖国！也请你们把基督城林肯学联学生学者齐心救灾、祖国齐心援助的消息告诉你们身处灾区的朋友亲人们，让他们一定放心、等待救援。
我们全体林肯学联学生学者同样相信，在祖国、大使馆和教育处的组织帮助下，在日本灾区华人华侨和留学生的救援善后工作会顺利进行。
我们期盼着灾区的日本民众和中国同胞们的生活学习尽早恢复正常。在史无前例的强震海啸中，坚强的中国同胞和日本人民一定能在全世界的关切和帮助下渡过难关，早日重建家园。
